Porta Bohemica

2016

“Words like “mystery,” “silence,” “tainted” and “darkness” recur through Trixie Whitley’s second album, Porta Bohemica, in songs about love striving to overcome deep, unhealed wounds. The melancholy haze in Ms. Whitley’s voice and the cutting tone of her electric guitar reflect the blues of her father, Chris Whitley. The songs on Porta Bohemica are enigmatic. The Visitor, which ends the album, is a glacial dirge, just Ms. Whitley and a few piano chords, that concludes, “I just want to be with those who know secrets, or else alone.””
